All our tutors have studied classical guitar to a professional level but they also specialise in electric and acoustic guitar. We have a few tutors who also teach bass and mandolin so there’s something for everyone!
Here is a list of some of our tutors:
Martin Bickerton: Classical Guitar, Acoustic Guitar, Composition and Theory
Martin is the creator of MGA. Alongside teaching at MGA, he also teaches at Yorkshire Young musicians and Bangor University, composes, performs (solo and ensemble) and produces. Martin has a first class degree (Hons) from the RNCM and has studied with many great musicians. To read more, click on his picture!
Dave Bainbridge: Classical, Electric, Acoustic guitar, Theory and Musicianship
Dave is fast establishing a reputation as a performer of contemporary music. He also has great experience in most styles of guitar and regularly performs on classical and electric guitars, as well as banjo and mandolin. Dave is currently working on a PhD at the RNCM.
He also has an amazing beard.
Emma Smith: Classical and Acoustic Guitar, theory and musicianship
Emma is the newest member of the MGA team. She recently graduated from the RNCM with a Masters Degree, having studied with the legendary guitarist, Craig Ogden. She is very active in the UK guitar scene and has formed many pro guitar ensembles. Emma has an incredible ear for music and is a inspirational and fun tutor.
We teach you not just how to play the guitar, but also how to read music, chord sheets, song structures, improvisation, ensemble skills and general musicianship.
If you have some friends who would like to form a band or an ensemble, we also offer ensemble coaching and advice.
All of our teachers regularly perform and have extensive experience and contacts within the music industry.
